The pattern
This commercial ad is filed under Curiosity gap.
Define
A missing piece is named but not filled, so the reader has to continue to close the loop.
Mechanism
Incomplete pattern. Attention is the itch. The next line is the scratch. The gap is a debt we must pay.
Verdict
The following sentence can pay off the gap with a fact, a name, or a mechanism
Why it works
The headline swaps the two words of خبز النقانق, sausage bun, into نقانق الخبز, bun sausage, and ends on a question mark, so the reader stops to picture what that would be. The photo shows a plain hot dog, the sausage poking out of the bun and cropped by the frame, while عكسناها ابتداء من 6 سبتمبر promises a change on a set date without saying what it is. The date turns the riddle into a reason to come back and check.
The big idea
IKEA flips the name of its hot dog, sausage bun becomes bun sausage, and says it reversed it from 6 September without showing what changed.
The offer
Something new about the IKEA hot dog from 6 September. The ad does not say what changes and gives no price.
Lines from the ad
خبز النقانق، مع نقانق الخبز؟Sausage bun, with bun sausage?
عكسناها ابتداء من 6 سبتمبرWe flipped it, starting 6 September
Steal this when
Use when a familiar menu item gets a twist on a known date, and flipping its name can tease the change before it is shown.
The emotion
Written to Curiosity. It does neither clearly.
Flipping sausage bun into bun sausage names a precise riddle and 6 September gives it a date, but the post never shows what changes or what it costs.
