What the ad shows
Two press ads set inside the grey perforated drum of a Samsung washing machine each pose an empty garment on its hands and knees. A football jersey vomits a stream of soil from its collar, and a mechanic's overall vomits glossy black oil, under the same small spec line, 1,300 rpm maximum spin speed, with the model number.
1,300 rpm maximum spin speed.
The image belongs to the brand, so we describe it here and link to where it is shown.
Samsung: a jersey and overalls throw up their own dirt
Samsung. Agency: FP7. The ad itself is shown at adsoftheworld.com.
The pattern
This still is filed under Image carries the claim.
Define
One image does the entire argument. Copy, if any, is a caption, not a second ad.
Mechanism
Pictorial claim. The picture is readable as a sentence. If we need a paragraph, we picked the wrong picture.
Verdict
The idea is visual and the surface is a poster, a feed, or a silent frame.
Why it works
The spec is an abstract number, so the ad shows its physical consequence, a garment so dizzy it vomits the dirt out of itself, and motion sickness is a universal feeling that needs no translation. Keeping the garment and stain fixed to one spec line across the series teaches the reader the formula once, so each new execution decodes faster than the last.
The big idea
An empty garment vomits its own dirt or oil on the washer drum floor, dramatizing the machine's spin speed as a force strong enough to sicken clothes.
The offer
Samsung WF338AAB washing machine; no price or terms stated.
The proof
Spec claim: 1,300 rpm maximum spin speed.
Steal this when
When the product's advantage is a technical number buyers cannot feel, dramatise the physical consequence of the number and keep the copy to the spec line.
The emotion
Written to Amusement. It makes the Say move.
The joke is the spec itself: clothes spun so hard they vomit their own dirt onto the drum, so the laugh lands on the 1,300 rpm spin speed and Samsung arrives with it.
