American University in Cairo, Rare Books and Special Collections Library. Bint al-Nil. RBSCL believes this item is in the public domain.
The pattern
This still is filed under Specimen as proof.
Define
A specimen (type, material, finish) is shown so the product proves itself under comparison.
Mechanism
Controlled display. Same conditions, side by side, no adjective required. The sample is the sentence.
Verdict
Buyers choose by eye or by hand and we can put the real thing in front of them.
Why it works
Most of the page is given to the objects: two decorated gift boxes and two cut-crystal bottles, drawn large and detailed so the reader judges the perfume by its packaging. A small Eiffel Tower in the corner and the French name in Latin letters carry the Paris origin without a paragraph. The Cairo shop's name in a white circle and its street address close the ad, so the desire has a place to go.
The big idea
The finest Paris perfume, Bienaimé, shown through its decorated gift boxes and cut-crystal bottles, and found in Cairo at one named shop.
The offer
Bienaimé perfumes at Gloria, Hassan al-Shabrawishi, 74 in the Continental building, Cairo, which also sells scents, cosmetics and fine gifts.
Lines from the ad
أرقى العطور الباريسيةThe finest Parisian perfumes
الرائحة المفضلة فى العالمThe world's favourite scent
روائح عطرية وأدوات التجميل وأجمل الهداياPerfumes, cosmetics and the finest gifts
Steal this when
Use it when a retailer sells an imported premium brand and the packaging is beautiful enough to be the main argument, especially in a gifting season.
The emotion
Written to Desire. It does neither clearly.
Decorated gift boxes and cut-crystal bottles fill the page beside a small Eiffel Tower for Paris, and the Cairo shop and its address close it, but no price appears anywhere.
