The pattern

This commercial ad is filed under Civilian war-duty equate.

Define

A civilian act (saving, making, staying quiet) is framed as the same duty as the front.

Mechanism

Moral equate. The small act inherits the gravity of the large one. The ask is ordinary. The meaning is not.

Verdict

We need mass compliance on an unglamorous behavior and can honestly tie it to a shared stake.

Read the pattern

Why it works

"الخطر الخارجي له من يواجهه" offers a fair division of labour: the army handles one danger, so the road is the one left to us, which makes the ask feel like a share, not a lecture. The convoy kicking up dust in the side mirror, against a calm city street, sets the two kinds of safety side by side. "بوعينا" is the only act offered, and it is a state of mind rather than a step.

The big idea

The caption splits the danger in two: soldiers face the outside threat, drivers must face the road's, and the side mirror puts both in one view.

Lines from the ad

بظهرك جنود يحرسون أمانك

At your back, soldiers guard your safety

لا تفقده في الطريق

Do not lose it on the road

خطر الطريق لازم نواجهه.. بوعينا

The road's danger is ours to face. with our awareness

Steal this when

When a campaign asks the public to take on a share of a responsibility that professionals already carry for them.

The emotion

Written to Duty. It makes the Avoid mistake.

It names who the reader owes, soldiers facing the outside threat, but the act it asks for is only "بوعينا", awareness, a call with no concrete act attached.

Fear with no step to take
