The pattern

This commercial ad is filed under If-then promise.

Define

A conditional contract: if you do this, you get that. The sentence can be tested against the reader's own case.

Mechanism

Specificity does the persuading. The if names the action. The then names the outcome. Hedging kills it.

Verdict

We can name both the action and the result without adjectives

Read the pattern

Why it works

The line is a plain if-then, When the sun goes down, this can take over., and the word this points at the product instead of naming it, so the photo has to finish the sentence. Two glass lanterns, one yellow and one pink, already hold lit tealights on a table in bright sun beside a sunflower, which shows the handover from daylight to candlelight before it happens.

The big idea

A tealight lantern takes over the table's lighting after sunset, and it is shown already lit while the sun is still out, so the handover is visible.

Lines from the ad

When the sun goes down,
this can take over.

Steal this when

When a product's job begins the moment a natural condition ends, such as dusk, rain or winter, and one photo can show both sides of that moment.

The emotion

Written to Desire. It does neither clearly.

Two lit lanterns, one yellow and one pink, sit on a sunny table beside a sunflower to make the evening glow wanted, but the post names no price, size or store.
