Define
A single figure, drawn, silhouetted, or posed, is the whole claim. You can read it across a street.
Mechanism
Compression into a body. The figure is not decoration. It is the sentence. Distance-legibility is the test.

Why it works
Bradley designs the whole sheet as one silhouette. Black and red are cut against each other so that neither is background - the eye keeps flipping between them, which holds attention far longer than a modelled illustration would. The title is not placed on the picture, it is interrupted by it: letting the figure's head occupy the gap in CHAP BOOK forces the viewer to read the type and the image in one pass. Splitting THANKS and GIVING NO. to the far edges stretches the composition to full sheet width and keeps the timeliness of the issue readable from across a street, with three cheap flat separations and no halftone.
Steal this when
A periodic or seasonal edition needs a poster and you have no product shot worth showing. Build one flat two-colour silhouette that fills the frame, and break the masthead around the figure so type and image cannot be separated.
