Madge Palmolive Dishwashing Liquid ad ('You're soaking in it' campaign)
The pattern
This still is filed under Campaign line as series.
Define
One line that can be replayed across executions so the campaign is a family, not a one-off.
Mechanism
Repeatable frame. Each ad is a verse. The line is the chorus. Recognition compounds because the structure is stable.
Verdict
We will run more than one execution and need them to add up in memory.
Why it works
The ad opens on the reader's own objection rather than the claim, so the first line spoken is disbelief, and the rest of the page exists to answer it. Because the demonstration happens in a manicure salon, the proof is environmental: no one soaks a client's hand in something harsh, so the setting argues the mildness before the copy does. Madge's direct-to-camera look implicates the reader in a private joke, which is what makes the campaign's later reveal line work at all. Recurring spokescharacter plus a single repeatable physical demonstration gives the brand a memory device it can run for years without changing the argument.
Steal this when
Use this when your product claim is the one thing your category is assumed to be incapable of, and you can stage a physical situation where a credible expert uses it in a way that would be reckless if the claim were false. Let the sceptic speak first.
