Danube: Cooking oil and 10 kg basmati rice at reduced prices

The pattern
This commercial ad is filed under Price-anchoring offer.
Define
A higher reference number is shown first so the real price reads as a concession, not as a starting bid.
Mechanism
People judge a price against the first number they see. The anchor must be a real comparison or it collapses.
Verdict
We have a credible reference the buyer will accept
Why it works
Grouping two oil brands under one price, 'للحبة EACH', lets shoppers keep their usual brand and still take the deal. The rice is shown as a full 10 kg sack, the size a household actually buys, so the 17.51-riyal cut lands on a real purchase. The old prices are struck through above the new ones, and the 'عروضنا غير' banner links the card to the week's cover.
The big idea
Cooking oil and a 10 kg rice sack, the heaviest items in a family grocery run, with old prices struck through so the saving lands on the biggest staples.
The offer
Al Arabi vegetable oil or Shams sunflower oil, 2x1.5L, 30.99 SAR each (was 41.95); Al Aila white basmati rice 10kg, 78.99 (was 96.50). All Danube branches until 6 October 2026 or while stocks last.

Steal this when
When a grocer can put two rival brands of the same staple at one price and let shoppers keep their loyalty while taking the deal.
