al-Anbarol nerve tonic ad, al-Kashkul 1928
American University in Cairo, Rare Books and Special Collections Library. al-Kashkul. RBSCL believes this item is in the public domain.
The pattern
This still is filed under Borrowed medical authority.
Define
The claim wears a lab coat: a diagram, a percentage, a clinical tone that is not necessarily a clinician.
Mechanism
Authority costume. Science-looking form transfers trust. Use it only when the substance matches, or we are documenting a historical mechanism. We do not recommend the abuse.
Verdict
We have real evidence and the buyer needs it in a form they already trust: a chart, a protocol, a named standard.
Why it works
The headline is an order, 'you must take al-Anbarol', spoken by a cheerful man in a fez who raises the vial toward the reader like a friend's tip. Around him sit two badges of proof, a gold medal from international exhibitions and a Public Health Department approval number, and the small print warns against imitations, so the reader asks for the name exactly.
The big idea
A smiling man in a fez lifts the vial and gives the reader a friend's order: for nerves, damp and stroke, al-Anbarol is the one to take.
The offer
al-Anbarol tonic at drug stores and pharmacies, or sent carriage paid from the Salem Khalifa laboratories in Mansoura: a full box for 50 piastres, a half box for 29 piastres.
The proof
A gold medal from the leading international exhibitions, Public Health Department approval under number 1083, a registered two-keys trademark, and a warning to beware of imitators.
