al-Hilal magazine August issue ad, al-Kawakib 1954
American University in Cairo, Rare Books and Special Collections Library. al-Kawakib. RBSCL believes this item is in the public domain.
The pattern
This still is filed under Value-stack offer.
Define
The core offer is surrounded by named extras so the package feels uneven in the buyer's favor.
Mechanism
Accumulation. Each add-on is priced in the mind, then included. Distinct from a guarantee stack: this adds value, that removes risk.
Verdict
The extras are real and wanted. The stack should survive a skeptical what do I actually get.
Why it works
Twenty light and dark squares, many holding two features and each feature with its writer's name, let the reader see the sheer volume before reading a single title. Bint al-Shati and Muhammad Husayn Haykal sit beside a Maupassant story and a Tosca libretto, and the line under the grid stacks more on top: all this besides the regular sections and articles by great Western writers. The foot then says the issue sells as usual for 5 piastres, so the pile grows while the price stays where it was.
The big idea
Show the whole contents page as a checkerboard of bylines, then add that the regular sections come on top, so one issue at the usual price looks overfull.
The offer
The August 1954 issue of al-Hilal, with its features plus the regular sections and articles by great Western writers, out on 30 July and sold as usual for 5 piastres.
The proof
A named writer on every feature, among them Dr Bint al-Shati, Dr Muhammad Husayn Haykal, Bertrand Russell and Maupassant.

Steal this when
Use it when a bundle, issue or course has grown but its price has not, and a count of named parts can make that plain.
