The pattern

This still is filed under Headline · visual lockup.

Define

Headline and picture are one sentence. Remove either half and the claim disappears.

Mechanism

Lockup. The line names what the image will not. The image shows what the line cannot. They are not redundant.

Verdict

We have a picture that completes a short line: wit, contrast, or a second meaning.

Why it works

The title, The Second Groom, sits in a big black disc directly above the photo, and the photo finishes the joke: Farid Shawqi leans in to kiss Hind Rostom's cheek while she lounges and looks away, unimpressed. Line and picture together promise a battle of wills over a remarriage, and the two star names stacked at the top in heavy type are what the reader actually came for.

The big idea

The Second Groom is a comedy of a man courting a woman not easily won: Farid Shawqi leans in to kiss a lounging, cool Hind Rostom under the title.

The offer

United Cinema (Sobhi Farahat) presents The Second Groom, now showing at the Opera cinema and al-Horreya in Heliopolis, directed by Hassan al-Seifi.

The proof

A cast of names: Hind Rostom and Farid Shawqi on top, with Nagwa Fouad, Abdel Moneim Ibrahim, Youssef Shaaban, the Theatre Lights trio and the folk singer Mohamed Taha.

Steal this when

When your title poses a situation and one photo can show the reaction that makes it funny.

The emotion

Written to Amusement. It makes the Say move.

The joke is the film itself: under The Second Groom, Farid Shawqi leans in to kiss a lounging Hind Rostom who looks away unimpressed, and the cinemas are named plainly outside it.
