Dialect versus fusha

What the ad shows

A wide banner on a bright white-grey set: a girl on a laptop and a boy writing in a notebook laugh at a small white desk with a red lamp, framed by a large red halftone speech-mark outline. On the right, all in red, a small 'لا تحـــاتي', a bold 'وفر أكثر من', a huge '3 أشهـــــر' stretched with a long kashida, and 'مع Vodafone Home' mixing Arabic and Latin letters. A small red terms line sits at lower left.

Vodafone Qatar: save more than 3 months with Vodafone Home

Vodafone QatarCountry: QatarLanguage: Gulf dialect

Vodafone Qatar. The ad itself is shown at vodafone.qa.

The pattern

This still is filed under Dialect versus fusha.

Define

A deliberate choice of register: spoken dialect for warmth and speed, fusha for authority and reach, or a controlled mix.

Mechanism

Register as positioning. The Arabic we pick tells the buyer who we are for. Mixing without a rule sounds like two brands.

Verdict

We know which ear we are writing for

Read the pattern

Why it works

'لا تحاتي' is what a parent hears across the kitchen, so the ad opens as reassurance in the household's own dialect and only then switches to standard Arabic for the offer. The kashida stretching 'أشهـــــر' makes the period physically long, turning duration into width. Children doing homework tie home internet to school, the parent's real concern.

The big idea

Parents hear 'لا تحاتي', the Gulf 'don't worry' said at home, before any sales claim, then a promise of more than three months saved on home internet.

The offer

Save more than 3 months with Vodafone Home; the banner does not say whether that means free months or a discount. Terms and conditions apply.

Steal this when

When talking to an anxious buyer, such as parents or first-timers, about a recurring bill: open with a dialect reassurance and stretch the number of months saved.

The emotion

Written to Anxiety. It makes the Avoid mistake.

It opens on 'don't worry' and then gives a vague figure, more than 3 months saved, without saying whether that means free months or a discount: reassurance without detail.
