Specimen of Printing Types
The pattern
This still is filed under Specimen as proof.
Define
A specimen (type, material, finish) is shown so the product proves itself under comparison.
Mechanism
Controlled display. Same conditions, side by side, no adjective required. The sample is the sentence.
Verdict
Buyers choose by eye or by hand and we can put the real thing in front of them.
Why it works
The book argues nothing and therefore cannot be argued with. By repeating one fixed passage through the entire range it converts a catalogue into a controlled test, so differences between founts become visible instead of describable, and the buyer does the comparing himself. Printing rectos only is a deliberate cost - it buys clean, unbacked impressions and makes each specimen feel like a plate rather than a page. Dating individual founts inside the book quietly answers the objection every type buyer has, which is whether the list is stale. The plain title page sets a low baseline so the fat faces a few leaves later read as louder than they are.
Steal this when
Steal this when your range is your argument and your buyer is a specifier who already knows the category - a materials library, a finish or paper sample book, a component catalogue. The move to copy is the fixed control text: put the same content through every option so the reader compares one variable at a time instead of drowning in unlike samples.
