Why it works
The same control passage - the opening of the Gettysburg Address, set again and again from face to face - turns a book of opinions into a controlled test, because the only variable left on the page is the letterform. Claim and proof are welded in a fixed alternating unit: assert a merit, print the face, caption the face, move on, so the reader never has to take a verdict on trust or flip to a plate section. Goudy's signed introduction is borrowed authority placed before the author's own argument, and it deliberately disagrees with part of it, which makes the whole book read as an argument being held rather than a foundry puff. The bare gilt panel on plain cloth is the same discipline as the text: the type is the subject, so the cover shows nothing but type.
Steal this when
Use this structure when you are comparing options in a category you sell into and your credibility depends on being seen to test fairly - hold one variable constant across every example, show the raw output next to each claim, and name what you do not like. It is the right shape for a comparison guide, a category teardown, or any piece where the audience can check your evidence themselves.
