The pattern

This still is filed under Specimen as proof.

Define

A specimen (type, material, finish) is shown so the product proves itself under comparison.

Mechanism

Controlled display. Same conditions, side by side, no adjective required. The sample is the sentence.

Verdict

Buyers choose by eye or by hand and we can put the real thing in front of them.

Why it works

The page template is a comparison jig. Because the frame, running head and the size-left price-right ledger line never change, a printer flipping through hundreds of pages is holding only two variables in mind, the letterform and the money, and the book does the arithmetic of choosing for him. The specimen copy is doing two jobs at once: it fills the measure to show fit and colour, and the words themselves are sales copy aimed at the reader, so the sample and the pitch occupy the same ink. Printing the price beside the sample removes the quote step entirely and converts a salesman-mediated purchase into self-service. Binding the equipment catalog into the same volume then extends the same logic to the whole shop, making the foundry the single source rather than one supplier among several.

Steal this when

Copy this when you sell many variants of one thing and the buyer's actual work is comparison - typefaces, finishes, SKUs, plan tiers, materials. Lock a single page template, put the sample and its price on the same line so nothing has to be looked up, and write the sample content so it pitches while it demonstrates.
