The pattern
This still is filed under Craft-argument book.
Define
A book or manual that sells a method by arguing it. Chapters as proof, not as decoration around a product.
Mechanism
Authority by treatise. The reader who accepts the argument has already accepted the seller as teacher.
Verdict
We can teach a craft in public and the teaching is the funnel.
Why it works
Hall builds the book around point of contact - the one appeal that touches the reader's actual situation - and proves it is discovered rather than guessed by showing Curtis spending thousands of dollars to learn that the appeal to the boy was weaker than the appeal to his parent. He writes in the first person on purpose and says so, because third person breeds verbiage; the admission that his own criticism of a millinery ad was demolished by his wife liking it converts the reader instead of lecturing him. The tipped-in plates with verdict captions turn abstract principle into a graded portfolio, which is why the book still reads as a working course rather than a treatise.
Steal this when
Steal this structure for any teaching asset that has to make a craft look learnable - a course module, a paid guide, a training deck. Show the specimen full size, put the one-line verdict directly beneath it, and tell at least one story where your own first judgement was wrong and the evidence corrected you.
