The pattern

This still is filed under Craft-argument book.

Define

A book or manual that sells a method by arguing it. Chapters as proof, not as decoration around a product.

Mechanism

Authority by treatise. The reader who accepts the argument has already accepted the seller as teacher.

Verdict

We can teach a craft in public and the teaching is the funnel.

Read the pattern

Why it works

It uses a surrogate learner. Fadei asks the dumb questions the reader has and Prov answers them, so the booklet never lectures the reader directly and never has to assume he already knows a term. The stepped verse setting is a pacing device, not decoration: it breaks each sentence into breath-sized units a barely literate reader can get through, and it makes the page look short. The marginal article numbers turn a comic poem into a lookup table, so the same object works as entertainment on first read and as a reference on the fiftieth. The drawings carry the argument by contrast, old world versus new, so the case is made before a word is read.

Steal this when

You have to get an audience to actually use a rulebook, policy, contract or benefits package they will never sit down and read. The surrogate-learner plus margin-citation build is the right structure whenever the piece has to entertain on the first pass and be searchable on the second.
