Why it works
Photographed from an angle rather than flat, this shot shows the thing the flat scans cannot: the index is a physical staircase cut into the paper, so poem-finding is a hand movement, not a page-turn. The title page gives the poem an image before it gives it words - the М is used as architecture, holding letters inside its counter, while a single black diagonal cuts the whole composition and supplies the march step. The three lines of poem at the foot are deliberately tiny against all that display, which tells the reader where the performance energy is meant to come from. Red and black only, so every red mark on every tab is legible as the same system.
Steal this when
Use it when a printed piece will be navigated by hand in front of an audience, and physical findability matters more than reading order. Also steal the title treatment when a section opener should function as an image: build the heading from one oversized letterform and nest the rest of the word inside it.
