Paul Scheurich - Die Gartenlaube mit 'Welt der Frau'
The pattern
This still is filed under Price-anchoring offer.
Define
A higher reference number is shown first so the real price reads as a concession, not as a starting bid.
Mechanism
People judge a price against the first number they see. The anchor must be a real comparison or it collapses.
Verdict
We have a credible reference the buyer will accept
Why it works
The poster carries no content claim at all - no serial, no article, no premium - so the picture has to do the whole job of saying who the magazine is for. It does it by casting the reader: dress, garden, child, lapdog are class markers a buyer reads in a second from a hoarding. The single scarlet mass against a muted olive and teal field creates one focal point at poster distance, and the curved lawn is a ramp that delivers the eye from the figure down into the lettering. Price is set last, smallest and inside the same script line, so 25 Pfennig arrives as a footnote to a scene rather than as a cost.
Steal this when
You are selling a subscription whose content is undifferentiated and the real purchase is identity - show the life the buyer wants to be seen living and let the price land small at the end. Also the right structure whenever an offer is cheap enough that arguing the value is weaker than assuming it.
