The pattern

This still is filed under Price-anchoring offer.

Define

A higher reference number is shown first so the real price reads as a concession, not as a starting bid.

Mechanism

People judge a price against the first number they see. The anchor must be a real comparison or it collapses.

Verdict

We have a credible reference the buyer will accept

Why it works

The product is drawn as the single largest shape on the poster and everything human is cropped around it, so the magazine cannot be mistaken for a prop. Setting the title on the diagonal forces the eye to travel the length of the sheet rather than stopping at a corner. The price is treated as display typography, larger than the artist's signature and in the same accent colour as the roses and the lips, which folds the commercial terms into the fashion picture instead of appending them. Showing only the eyes of the reader behind the page creates curiosity and lets any woman in the street put herself there.

Steal this when

Use this when selling a magazine, a book or any content product where the object itself is attractive: make the product the biggest shape, crop the people, and set the price at the same weight as the art.
