The pattern

This still is filed under Price-anchoring offer.

Define

A higher reference number is shown first so the real price reads as a concession, not as a starting bid.

Mechanism

People judge a price against the first number they see. The anchor must be a real comparison or it collapses.

Verdict

We have a credible reference the buyer will accept

Why it works

The hierarchy is inverted on purpose: the dedication sits above everything and the composer's name sits below the title, which converts a dance number into an institutional tribute and buys it respectability. The English strapline is set in the second position, plainly, to signal that this edition is already an export item before anyone abroad has heard the tune. The grapevine and trellis frame does the work a photograph would do now - it says Vienna, wine country and the Danube without a line of descriptive copy. Every piece of commercial information is real-estate-ranked at the bottom edge, so the sheet can sit in a shop window as a picture and still function as an order form up close.

Steal this when

Use this arrangement when a product has to be sold as culture rather than as merchandise, and the credibility comes from who endorsed it and where it is already carried. The stacked bottom band - agents, rights notice, price table, plate number - is the pattern to copy whenever transactional detail must be present but must not be what the buyer sees first.
