Pack as storefront

Sun-Tag Brand orange crate label

The pattern

This still is filed under Pack as storefront.

Define

The pack is the store. On a shelf or a thumbnail, it must stop, name, and close without a clerk.

Mechanism

Shelf rhetoric. Hierarchy, claim, and proof live on the face. The first five centimeters do the campaign's job.

Verdict

The buy happens in a glance among competitors: grocery, pharmacy, app store icon.

Why it works

The device and the name are the same object, so the trade mark explains itself and no line of copy is needed to connect them. The tag is the only diagonal on an otherwise flat field, which forces the eye to it first and gives a square label a direction. The printed sunburst does the work of a light source - flat yellow ink reads as sunlight once it radiates from behind the letters - so the label claims sun-ripening without writing the word. Underneath, the photographic fruit bed sells condition and colour, which is the thing a buyer is actually grading at the crate end.

Steal this when

Steal this when your brand name names a physical object - draw the object at large scale and let it carry the lettering rather than illustrating a scene around it. Good for any mark that must survive being shrunk to a stamp, sticker or sleeve.
