The pattern

This still is filed under Pack as storefront.

Define

The pack is the store. On a shelf or a thumbnail, it must stop, name, and close without a clerk.

Mechanism

Shelf rhetoric. Hierarchy, claim, and proof live on the face. The first five centimeters do the campaign's job.

Verdict

The buy happens in a glance among competitors: grocery, pharmacy, app store icon.

Read the pattern

Why it works

The tag carries exactly one variable - the name - and lets the physical object carry everything else. The surname gets the underline and the largest hand, so the filing key is the first thing the eye lands on, and the paraph beneath acts as a signature that the tag is authorised rather than scrap. The coloured cord does two jobs at once: it is the fastener and it is the only colour in the object, so the eye is led from the bundle to the label without any design element being added. This is labelling reduced to its load-bearing minimum.

Steal this when

You are labelling physical inventory, archive boxes or sample kits and the label will be read in a glance rather than studied. Strip to one identifying key, weight it above everything else, and let the tie itself point the eye to the tag.
