The echo - poster
The pattern
This still is filed under Lettered cover hook.
Define
The cover is the hook, and the hook is lettering: a title treated as an image.
Mechanism
Type as bait. The words are drawn so they stop the hand before the contents are known.
Verdict
A journal, book, or issue must sell itself on a rack or a feed
Why it works
The composition is a visual pun on the title: the same figure is drawn twice, once in full colour and once as a flat green shadow, so the word ECHO is explained without a line of copy. Bradley then lets the display lettering overlap the figure rather than sit in clear space, which reads as one image instead of picture-plus-caption and forces the eye through the title. The subtitle is the only place any argument is made, and it is deliberately small: on a street poster, the name plus one distinguishing phrase is the whole message.
Steal this when
Use this when the product name itself contains an idea you can draw. Illustrate the name literally, let the type overlap the art, and reduce all positioning to a single short subline under the logo.
