The bookman Christmas number for sale here - poster
The pattern
This still is filed under Keepable trade card.
Define
A small card people keep (pretty, useful, or collectible) that carries the brand after the encounter.
Mechanism
Retention object. The gift is the media. Recall is paid for by usefulness or delight, not by repetition.
Verdict
We can put a physical or digital keepable in someone's pocket and they will not throw it away.
Why it works
One overprinted line turns an image poster into a point-of-sale card. The availability claim sits above everything, in the reader's first fixation, because at the window the question is not what is this magazine but can I get it here. Reusing the identical lithographic key drawing and only changing the colourway and the top line is how a publisher gets two media out of one plate - brand poster and dealer card - without a second commission, and the shared image means the window card reinforces every other poster in town.
Steal this when
Steal this when you already have a brand asset running and need a retail version: keep the artwork identical, add one line of availability and price above the frame, and change the colourway just enough that the two do not read as a printing error side by side.
