Berliner Börsen-Courier newspaper - poster
The pattern
This still is filed under Image carries the claim.
Define
One image does the entire argument. Copy, if any, is a caption, not a second ad.
Mechanism
Pictorial claim. The picture is readable as a sentence. If we need a paragraph, we picked the wrong picture.
Verdict
The idea is visual and the surface is a poster, a feed, or a silent frame.
Why it works
The headline and the image each carry half the claim and neither repeats the other, so the reader has to put them together, which is what makes it stick. The newspaper pages are drawn as blank cream planes, turning the product into the poster's negative space instead of a cluttered prop. Colour is rationed to one red for all type and one blue for the hat and the eyeglass cord, so on a wall of posters the piece reads as two colours on white. Cropping both figures behind the pages implies absorbed reading, which is the behaviour the ad is selling.
Steal this when
Use this when the growth problem is a category audience that thinks the product is not for them: show the unexpected user doing the thing, and let the headline name the two segments plainly.
