Zoologischer Garten München - poster
The pattern
This still is filed under Iconic figure claim.
Define
A single figure, drawn, silhouetted, or posed, is the whole claim. You can read it across a street.
Mechanism
Compression into a body. The figure is not decoration. It is the sentence. Distance-legibility is the test.
Verdict
Poster scale, outdoor, packaging at a glance
Why it works
Two big cats are separated by rendering rather than by space: one is fully patterned, the other is a flat black void, so the poster gets depth and menace without any modelling or perspective. The two green eyes are the only cool accent in an otherwise warm sheet, which makes them the second thing the eye finds after the leopard's stare, and they hold the viewer a beat longer. Frontal gaze does the stopping work. Printing the full admission tariff along the bottom converts a mood poster into a transactional one, so the passer-by leaves with both an image and a price.
Steal this when
Use this when a single subject can carry the whole category and the frontal stare is available to you, as with animals, faces and mascots. Also copy the discipline of banding the hard commercial detail, prices, times, terms, across the bottom of an otherwise purely emotional image rather than letting one crowd out the other.
