The Ault & Wiborg Co [A man with hat and gloves holds a jar of ink] - poster
The pattern
This still is filed under Iconic figure claim.
Define
A single figure, drawn, silhouetted, or posed, is the whole claim. You can read it across a street.
Mechanism
Compression into a body. The figure is not decoration. It is the sentence. Distance-legibility is the test.
Verdict
Poster scale, outdoor, packaging at a glance
Why it works
The colour list at the foot is the real copy, and everything above it exists to justify each entry - buff for the coat, brown for the urns, green for the topiary and the tablet, red for the flat ground, yellow for the cherubs, grey for the scrollwork, black for the contour - so that no ink on the list appears without being exercised somewhere visible. The architectural symmetry is a register test in disguise: paired urns, paired trees and paired cherubs mean any misfit between plates shows immediately on both sides, which is a quiet way of claiming press accuracy. Putting the ink jar in a child's raised hand solves the problem that the product is a dull container - the gesture makes it a presentation rather than a still life. The lettering is deliberately ornate and multi-weight, proving the inks hold fine work as well as flat areas.
Steal this when
Reach for this when your pitch is breadth of range rather than one hero item. Build a single image that uses every variant you sell, make it symmetrical so quality of execution is self-evident, and list the full range with order codes underneath.
