Why it works
Three depth planes are separated by value and transparency rather than perspective, so the poster stays flat and legible at fifty paces while still reading as a crowded room. The venue name is repeated three times and the scheduling line twice, which is brute repetition tuned for a passer-by who reads one fragment and keeps walking. Drawing the male partner as a see-through grey mass lets a foreground figure frame the star instead of hiding her, a trick borrowed from Japanese woodblock composition along with the cropped silhouettes and unmodulated colour. The silhouette crowd both sets the scene and implies the place is already full, which is social proof drawn rather than stated.
