Why it works
The pose is the argument. Crossed arms and a turned head close the figure off, which reads as shame at any size, so the poster will still communicate from across a street when the detail dissolves. The repeated leg study at the left shows the designer isolating the single passage that carries the stance rather than redrawing the whole figure. The ruled thumbnail in the margin is the real lesson: the figure is being tested inside the poster rectangle while it is still being drawn, so the crop, the negative space and the type zone are decided at the same time as the anatomy.
Steal this when
You are developing a key visual that has to carry an emotion on its own, and you want to fix the pose and the silhouette before any layout or copy is committed. Copy the habit of ruling a small format thumbnail on the same sheet so the illustration is never designed outside the frame it has to live in.
