Why it works
The pose is the argument: an exaggerated diagonal with both feet off their marks reads as motion, and motion is what a comic turn is actually selling, so the poster demonstrates the product instead of portraying the man. Making the body a single black silhouette and leaving the head in thin line concentrates all detail on the face, the one part a passer-by needs to recognize on the bill. The outlined display lettering is left hollow so the black figure stays the darkest element and the name never competes with the picture. Cropping the figure against the frame edges implies he is entering from outside the sheet, which gives a static poster a before-and-after.
