Why it works
One hand-tinted element in an otherwise monochrome sheet does the work of a full colour print at a fraction of the ink, and gives the eye exactly one place to land. Splitting the title around the figure forces the star and the name to be read as a single object rather than a picture with a caption above it. The engraved music is a proof device aimed at a specific doubt: it tells an audience that suspects a novelty that the score is the genuine Bizet, sung. The flaming rose is used here as a small repeating trademark rather than as the image, which is how a symbol earns recall across a campaign that runs at many sizes.
Steal this when
When the whole appeal is one person or one object: strip the colour out of everything else and tint that alone. Use the same trick when a prestige source needs vouching for, by showing a fragment of the source itself instead of claiming it in copy.
