Festival of modern dance - Myra Kinch & group
The pattern
This still is filed under Event symbol poster.
Define
A symbol or allegory that makes an event feel like a destination. Not a timetable. A magnet.
Mechanism
Attraction by emblem. Date and venue ride under a picture that already means come.
Verdict
We are filling a room, a night, or a run of dates
Why it works
The figure is drawn as one continuous silhouette with white lines cut out of the flat colour rather than black lines drawn on top, which is what silkscreen does best and what makes the skirt read as motion instead of cloth. The navy ellipse is not scenery - it is a shadow abstracted into a shape, which anchors the dancer without adding a stage. Typographically the three lines escalate from condensed to script to wide geometric, and the wide thin MODERN DANCE is the visual echo of the dancer's stretched lunge. The blank lower third is deliberate - this is a stock bill printed without date or venue, left open for an overprinted or pasted strip.
Steal this when
You are selling a performance or a physical skill and a single arrested pose can prove it better than any claim. Draw one figure in flat colour with the detail cut out as light, and leave the bottom of the sheet open for the details that change by city.
