Alien corn" by Sidney Howard
The pattern
This still is filed under Event symbol poster.
Define
A symbol or allegory that makes an event feel like a destination. Not a timetable. A magnet.
Mechanism
Attraction by emblem. Date and venue ride under a picture that already means come.
Verdict
We are filling a room, a night, or a run of dates
Why it works
One image carries the entire premise: liner plus cornfield is the play's situation, a cultivated European life stranded in the American plains, and the designer trusts the picture instead of explaining it. The title is tilted against the liner's diagonal so the two forces oppose each other, which is why a static sheet reads as movement. The rotated brush-script now in its yellow disc is the only element that breaks the geometry, so the eye lands on it last and reads it as urgency rather than decoration. Three inks, no halftone, no photograph - everything survives screen printing and reads from across a street.
Steal this when
The name of the thing you are selling contains a double meaning you can draw. Build the whole composition out of the pun's two halves and let the title do the explaining.
