The pattern

Define
The product does the arguing. The viewer sees the thing work, not a slogan about the thing working.
Mechanism
Proof by performance. The claim is the action: a visible, testable result the reader can replay.

Why it works
The composition is built on withheld color: nearly all of the sheet is left as paper, so the single block of flat blue behind the barman becomes a magnet and the eye is pulled straight to the face he is pulling. Figures are drawn mostly in contour with washes only where a detail sells character, which makes the crowd read as a quick observed moment rather than an arranged illustration. The counter's diagonal and the overlapping top hats stack the group into the right half, leaving the left open, so in the finished state there is a ready-made field for the lettering that this proof does not yet carry. As an advertisement the strategy is associative rather than argumentative - the magazine is placed in a scene its readers want to belong to, and nothing is claimed about it at all.
Steal this when
Use this when the buy is about belonging and the brand's job is to be seen among a particular set. Build the artwork around an observed social scene, leave a deliberate empty field in the composition for the name, and make one small block of saturated color the only thing that competes with the faces.
