Define

The product does the arguing. The viewer sees the thing work, not a slogan about the thing working.

Mechanism

Proof by performance. The claim is the action: a visible, testable result the reader can replay.

Why it works

One diagram carries the entire argument: a household object substitutes for the strategic picture, and labelling its three moving parts makes combined Army, Navy and civilian defence into a visible mechanism instead of a slogan. The reframe is the persuasion - the most exposed territory on the map is redrawn as the bait, so anxiety about a weak flank is converted into an offensive promise without explanation. The enemy is drawn as vermin, the period's standard dehumanising shorthand, which is what makes the trap read instantly and what dates the piece.

Steal this when

You need to reframe an apparent weakness as a deliberate advantage for an audience that already knows some everyday mechanism. Draw that mechanism literally, label its parts with your real actors, and let the headline do nothing but name the reframe.
