Why it works
The bilingual scheme is doing structural work, not decoration: English in black, French in red, in identical letterforms, so a French visitor reads the red layer straight through without the plate ever feeling translated. Leading with authorship - prepared and executed by Negro students - makes every chart that follows a demonstration of Black capability as well as a statistic, which is the argument the exhibit was built to make. The pie of graduates converts an abstract claim about education into an occupational outcome, and the endowment figure lands only after that outcome has been shown. The plate is a credential page and a fundraising page wearing the clothes of a table of contents.
