The pattern

This still is filed under Craft-argument book.

Define

A book or manual that sells a method by arguing it. Chapters as proof, not as decoration around a product.

Mechanism

Authority by treatise. The reader who accepts the argument has already accepted the seller as teacher.

Verdict

We can teach a craft in public and the teaching is the funnel.

Read the pattern

Why it works

The name goes before the title and gets its own rule, because the selling point is the author's biography, not the plot - a man under sentence of death wrote this. The body copy never summarises the story; it positions the book inside a fight the reader already has opinions about, borrowing three famous names to fix where it stands. Calling it a Kampfbuch and denying it is a novel in the ordinary sense pre-empts the objection that fiction is a soft response to politics. The prices sit in larger type than the body, immediately above the imprint, so the commercial facts are the last thing read and are impossible to miss.

Steal this when

Steal this when the author, founder or maker has a story more arresting than the product, and the audience already holds a position in the fight the work belongs to. Lead with the person, rule them off, then place the work on a named side.
