Celebrity endorsement

Rudy Vallee says... "put yourself across

The pattern

This still is filed under Celebrity endorsement.

Define

A named, recognizable person lends their reputation to the claim. The name is the proof.

Mechanism

Transferred authority. The reader believes the person first, the product second. Fame or office does the work a peer testimonial does not.

Verdict

The endorser is actually known to the buyer

Read the pattern

Why it works

Two borrowed authorities stack without either proving anything: the star supplies the desire, and the anonymous great physicians supply the permission, with the transition line doing the join, what the famous physicians say about yeast certainly worked out in my case. The symptom named is social rather than medical, being run down so that you cannot put yourself across, which invites the reader to self-diagnose from a feeling instead of a condition. The endorser is anchored to the advertiser's own radio hour, so the media investment and the testimonial vouch for each other. The dosage panel converts a vague promise into an exact daily behaviour, which is what makes the product repurchasable rather than admirable.

Steal this when

Use this when the benefit is internal and hard to demonstrate. Borrow a famous person to carry the desire, a professional class to carry the proof, name a social consequence rather than a clinical one, then close with an exact daily dose so the reader has something to do today.
