Admiral refrigerators and radios ad, al-Musawwar 1945
American University in Cairo, Rare Books and Special Collections Library. al-Musawwar. RBSCL believes this item is in the public domain.
The pattern
This still is filed under Off-plan vision sell.
Define
Selling a place that does not exist yet: a rendering, a masterplan, a life that starts after handover.
Mechanism
Future as product. Trust, progress imagery, and a named future self do the work a show unit cannot. Risk language must stay honest.
Verdict
Real estate or a long-lead project where the buyer is buying a plan, not a key today.
Why it works
Admiral could not sell refrigerators in 1945, so it sold the life after the war: remember that after the war your living will improve with Admiral machines, and wait for victory first, then look for Admiral. A cheerful housewife and a row of drawn appliances set the picture, and a short list of reasons a refrigerator pays off, healthier food, better taste, less waste, money saved, gives the reader a case to hold until the shops fill again.
The big idea
Admiral, busy with war work now, promises that after the war its food cooler will keep food fresh all year and cut the family's food bill, so wait for Admiral.
The offer
Nothing to buy yet: wait for victory, then look for Admiral's below-zero food cooling cabinet, refrigerator, electric oven, radio-phonograph and record player. Export office, 89 Broad Street, New York.
The proof
Claims a 40% saving on the cost of food, a box of four reasons (healthier food, better taste, no spoilage, money saved), and Admiral's wide fame as a radio maker.
Lines from the ad
نعدك بأننا بعد الحرب ستحسن معيشتك بواسطة آلات ادميرالWe promise that after the war your living will improve through Admiral machines
فضلا عن توفير ٤٠ ٪ في قيمة هذه المأكولاتon top of saving 40% on the cost of this food
انتظر النصر أولا ثم ترقب أدميرال !Wait for victory first, then look out for Admiral
Steal this when
When your product is not available yet and you need buyers to choose you now for a purchase they will make later.
The emotion
Written to Hope. It does neither clearly.
It promises that after the war living will improve through Admiral and puts a number on it, 40% saved on food, but gives no way to check the figure and no step beyond waiting.
