Aspro cold tablets ad, al-Musawwar 1941
American University in Cairo, Rare Books and Special Collections Library. al-Musawwar. RBSCL believes this item is in the public domain.
The pattern
This still is filed under Event urgency drive.
Define
An external event (a shutdown, a deadline, a migration) becomes the reason to act this week.
Mechanism
Calendar shock. Unlike scarcity-close (our limit), this limit is in the world. We point at it. We do not invent it.
Verdict
The event is real and the reader's inaction has a dated cost.
Why it works
The ad opens on the season every Cairo reader was living through, the khamaseen winds, and ties colds to it, so the reason to buy is already outside the window. A woman wrapped against the wind, the tablet pack and 'take Aspro' follow in one downward read. Two named readers with photos confirm it worked for them, and a price box shows small packs cost only a few millimes.
The big idea
The khamaseen season is here and colds spread with it, but they can be avoided: take Aspro and trust it to kill the illness at its start.
The offer
Aspro tablets for colds, and as a gargle for sore throats. Prices held until further notice: 2 tablets 5 millimes, 10 tablets 2.5 piastres, 27 tablets 5 piastres.
The proof
Two named, photographed testimonials: Lutfi Saad Moussa, a property owner in Beni Suef, and a school teacher from Quesna district. It also claims to be the best-selling remedy of its kind worldwide.
Lines from the ad

Steal this when
A seasonal health or weather problem is about to hit and your product is the quick fix people can buy cheaply today.
The emotion
Written to Dread. It makes the Say move.
It names the season the reader is already in, khamaseen colds spreading, then gives the step at once: take Aspro, with a price box from 5 millimes for 2 tablets and two named users.
