Jeunesse Fleurie lotion ad, al-Musawwar 1936
American University in Cairo, Rare Books and Special Collections Library. al-Musawwar. RBSCL believes this item is in the public domain.
The pattern
This still is filed under Guarantee stack.
Define
Several guarantees, each aimed at a different reason not to buy, stacked so residual risk is named and removed.
Mechanism
Risk subtraction. One clause answers what if it breaks. Another answers what if I don't like it. The stack is the argument.
Verdict
The offer is unfamiliar or expensive
Why it works
A huge 100% opens the ad and then repeats down the column, each line answering a separate doubt: pure flower extract, a scent that lasts, users' approval, value for money, and a gold medal from exhibition judges. The line calling it 100% pure Egyptian, plus a stockist list led by the Egyptian products sales company, lets a buyer choose local without feeling he settled for less than the French-named bottle suggests.
The big idea
A French-named lotion that is 100% Egyptian and 100% right on every count: pure flower extract, lasting scent, loved by users and judged best at the exhibition.
The offer
Lotion Jeunesse Fleurie from the al-Shabrawishi perfume factory, sold at branches of the Egyptian products sales company, chamber of commerce showrooms, Ahmed Halawa, Hassan Mansour, al-Farnawani and other shops.
The proof
The exhibition judges gave the factory the special honour prize with the gold medal, and the ad claims unanimous approval from its users.
