PBS P-head identity
The pattern
This still is filed under Mark as compressed claim.
Define
The mark itself is the sentence: a monogram, a seal, a device that already means the claim.
Mechanism
Compression. Years of use, or a very sharp first use, load the device so it can appear without copy.
Verdict
The mark is already loaded, or we will spend to load it
Why it works
Herb Lubalin's original PBS logo perfectly captured the 1970s aesthetic of flowing, continuous line art. The repeating faces literally visualized the 'Public' in a warm, almost psychedelic manner.
Steal this when
You need an identity that feels highly human, community-oriented, and rooted in expressive, continuous line-work. *Collection note: The repeating P-head that served PBS for thirteen years* ---
