Define

Why it works
The mark is reduced to a single pictorial pun on the house name, which is how shops were identified before literacy could be assumed and before wordmarks existed. The portrait is centred and isolated inside a plain rule, with ornament pushed out to the corners and etched far more faintly, so nothing competes with the silhouette of the head. The wide band of untouched paper around the shoulders reads as reserved space rather than emptiness, which is exactly how a sign-based identity is built: the picture is fixed and the lettering is added later, per use.
Steal this when
Use this when a brand name is a concrete noun. Draw the noun, isolate it in generous clear space inside a plain rule, and let the picture carry the name so the mark works identically on a sign, a wrapper and a stamp.
