The pattern

This still is filed under Mail-order catalog.

Define

A catalog that is the store: browse, choose, order, without a clerk and often without a website.

Mechanism

Assortment as argument. Density, numbering, and an order path do the closing. The book is the funnel.

Verdict

We have a range, remote buyers, and a way to take the order on the same object.

Read the pattern

Why it works

The cover sells the firm rather than any product in it, because the transaction being asked for, mailing money to an address you have never seen, needs the seller to be made real first. Each engraving is an answer to that objection: here is the building, here are the clerks, here is the stock. Calling itself the Wholesale Grange Supply House borrows the standing of an organisation the reader already belongs to and pays dues to, and the word wholesale sets the price expectation before a single line of merchandise copy is read.

Steal this when

Use this when a buyer must send money to a seller they cannot visit, and your credibility problem is existence rather than quality. Show the premises, the departments and the people, and attach yourself to a body your buyer already trusts.
