The pattern

This still is filed under Lettered cover hook.

Define

The cover is the hook, and the hook is lettering: a title treated as an image.

Mechanism

Type as bait. The words are drawn so they stop the hand before the contents are known.

Verdict

A journal, book, or issue must sell itself on a rack or a feed

Why it works

The poster builds a frame inside a frame: columns, wreath and red drape push the eye to a single lit face at the optical centre. Billing order does the selling - the name is in the biggest type and the highest position, the title is demoted to the foot, so the sheet argues that the performer matters more than the play. Every ornament is symmetrical, which reads as imperial and matches the costume rather than fighting it.

Steal this when

Use this when the personality is the product and the title is interchangeable - a speaker, a headliner, a founder-led launch. Put the name where the eye lands first and let the event name take the smaller slot.
