Trade card of the print dealer Rochoux, Paris

The pattern

This still is filed under Keepable trade card.

Define

A small card people keep (pretty, useful, or collectible) that carries the brand after the encounter.

Mechanism

Retention object. The gift is the media. Recall is paid for by usefulness or delight, not by repetition.

Verdict

We can put a physical or digital keepable in someone's pocket and they will not throw it away.

Why it works

Three lines of type do three different jobs and are separated by weight rather than by rules: what is sold, who sells it, where. Only the name is coloured, so in a monochrome card the eye lands on the one word that has to be remembered. The scene underneath is not decoration, it is wayfinding - the bridge, the equestrian statue and the row of stalls are the visual instructions for finding No. 19 in a city where street numbering was unreliable. The curtain frame borrows the theatre to make an ordinary shop plaque feel like something being revealed.

Steal this when

Use this when your location is genuinely part of the offer - a shop, a stall, a studio, a room in a building people already know. Draw the landmark, colour only the name, and let the address sit quietly as the third line.
