Trade card of the gunmaker Samuel Brunn
The pattern
This still is filed under Keepable trade card.
Define
A small card people keep (pretty, useful, or collectible) that carries the brand after the encounter.
Mechanism
Retention object. The gift is the media. Recall is paid for by usefulness or delight, not by repetition.
Verdict
We can put a physical or digital keepable in someone's pocket and they will not throw it away.
Why it works
Warrant credentials are placed above everything and rendered as heraldry rather than stated as a sentence, so the authority is absorbed as an image before it is read as a claim. The product drawings are technical, not decorative - visible lock plates, hilt chasing and belt hardware - which functions as competence evidence in a trade where the buyer's life depends on the workmanship. The margin lines are the cleverest part: address, landmark and two product claims are pushed off the composition into the waste edges, which keeps the centre uncluttered while making the card feel dense with information. The oval reserve is set as a descending hierarchy from personal name to institutional customer, so the reader ends on the Board of Ordnance and the Army and Navy - the least glamorous and most convincing customers.
Steal this when
Use this when you sell to consumers but your credibility comes from institutional or professional buyers - lead with the named accounts, rendered as a badge, and let the retail offer sit under it. The margin trick is worth stealing on any crowded layout where secondary detail must be present without competing for the centre.
