Trade card of Isaac Puller, cane chairs at the Golden Chair
The pattern
This still is filed under Keepable trade card.
Define
A small card people keep (pretty, useful, or collectible) that carries the brand after the encounter.
Mechanism
Retention object. The gift is the media. Recall is paid for by usefulness or delight, not by repetition.
Verdict
We can put a physical or digital keepable in someone's pocket and they will not throw it away.
Why it works
Italic-for-nouns typography turns a single paragraph into a scannable list without a single bullet - the eye lands on Golden Plow, Cane-Chairs, Stools, Couches and Rattan-Canes on the first pass and can reconstruct the business from those words alone. The shop sign leads because streets were not yet numbered, so the sign is both the address and the brand. The drop initial fixes a start point on an otherwise unstructured block. The two thirds of blank paper are functional rather than stylistic: the same slip serves as bill and receipt, which is why this sheet survived with an order written on it.
Steal this when
You need one small piece of paper to introduce a business and then do paperwork duty - state it in a single sentence, emphasise the nouns typographically, and leave the bottom open.
