The pattern

This still is filed under Keepable trade card.

Define

A small card people keep (pretty, useful, or collectible) that carries the brand after the encounter.

Mechanism

Retention object. The gift is the media. Recall is paid for by usefulness or delight, not by repetition.

Verdict

We can put a physical or digital keepable in someone's pocket and they will not throw it away.

Read the pattern

Why it works

The product is engraved once, large and open, at the optical top of the card, so the trade is identified before any reading happens - and because a fan is also a natural ornament, the merchandise doubles as decoration for free. The copy is ordered by descending commitment: who and where, then what is made, then the adjacent range, then the terms, then the service postscript. The NB line is the working part: mending is low-value work, but offering it proves the maker can build a fan, and it creates a reason to walk in without buying. Curving the body lines to the oval reserve is a deliberate readability sacrifice in exchange for making the card look expensively engraved, which is itself the quality signal for a luxury craft.

Steal this when

Use this shape for a maker who also retails adjacent goods: hero the thing you actually make, then let the bought-in range sit underneath it in smaller type. The NB repair line is worth copying whenever you want a low-risk first transaction with someone who is not ready to buy new.
